Family Worship:

A Neglected but

Necessary Practice

in the

Christian Home

It’s been said, “As goes the home, so goes the church, so goes the nation.” One key element in the way the home goes is family worship. It is not the only factor of course, but it is the foundation of biblical child-rearing. In the first half of this course Dr. Chuck Hill will look at the central place which God has given to the family in his covenant of grace with mankind and in his mission to reclaim lost sinners. It will lay a foundation for understanding the importance of family worship and Christian family nurture. In the second half of the class Pastor Frank Cavalli will focus on the practicalities of family worship. Topics will include the leader of family worship (i.e., father as prophet, priest, and king), the elements of family worship, the benefits of family worship, the challenges of family worship, and the culmination of family worship with advice on how to “parent in the pew” to make corporate worship as meaningful and enjoyable as possible for the entire family.

Peacemakers:

Vital

to

the

Christian Life

Don’t you just love a good fight?! Seems like a strange question doesn’t it, but if we look around us, we see that conflict is inevitable. It invades our relationships with our spouse, kids, siblings, in-laws and out-laws, our boss, co-workers, and subordinates, our neighbors, friends and just about everyone else we encounter in life. How do we cope with conflict? Jump in and stir the pot -- the peace breaker approach? Ignore it and walk away – the peace faker approach? Or have we actually learned to see conflict as an opportunity to glorify God by dealing with it biblically. Christ called each one of to be a peace maker and he commanded us to “Make every effort to live in peace with all men.” (Hebrews 12:14) Wow! That sounds like every relationship should be different for the follower of Christ and it also sounds like he expects us to work hard at this. Thankfully, the God of all peace who makes peace with his people through the gospel has provided boundless counsel to us to learn to live out this kingdom attribute. So come to this class to learn how to have a good fight, for the glory of God!

A Study

of

The

Book of

Job

Picture yourself in an operating room theater. There you will meet a master surgeon and his cruel and hapless assistant. They will select an unsuspecting member of the audience, who will be tied down to the operating table. Then, without the benefit of anesthesia, his chest will be opened and his heart cut out, and held out for your close up inspection. While all this is happening, his three closest friends will join him for a theological discussion on the meaning of suffering. This genre was actually first invented by God before the days of television, for the entertainment and instruction of heaven and earth. But only on very rare occasions are we allowed to know the plot in advance and see the interaction between heaven and earth in people’s lives. Come join us for a spiritual anatomy class as we see the skill of the master surgeon, the cruelty of his assistant, the love of well-meaning friends and the beating heart of Job
